The new music that has been produced for ‘In the Mix’ productions since 2010 has been influenced by the electronic music composer Delia Derbyshire. From the beginning of the project, Matthew and I discussed her work and I spent a day at Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama, looking through the Delia Derbyshire Archive- compositions, radio scripts- didn’t even get round to listening to the sound recordings! Another trip is due! It is exciting that University of Manchester acquired Delia Derbyshire’s archive and it is now being catalogued and digitised. The soundscapes that Huw is working on will be composed of found sounds, and the bank of individual sounds will also be part of the production and form an album of Manchester Museum sounds.
